Are You Happy for Now and Continue to be Happy for Future?

Are you happy with the way you currently live your life? Here is a little story that I would like to share with you:

There was a poor but happy and helpful farmer, though he lived in poverty, but that did not stopped him from trying to help others, and in fact he enjoyed doing so. Those that received help from him, were thankful to him, and the farmer was friendly in return.

And one day, he happened to saved a child, whom was in fact an angel in disguise. And due to his kindness, the angel decided to grant him one wish. So the angel asked the farmer “If I were to grant you one wish, what would you wish for?” The farmer said that “For all my life till this age, I have been living in poverty. It would be great, if I become a millionaire”. And yes, his wish came true.

The next day he woke up, he was blessed with millions and millions of dollars that he could not believe in his eyes. He had turned into a millionaire overnight. And from then on, he live a wealthy lifestyle. He ain’t a poor farmer anymore; he is a rich and wealthy millionaire, living in one of the most expensive estate, and having to fest with best food, wear the most expensive clothing. He did not have to farm for food, and he did not have time for his friends or helping others. He was merely busy on how he could spend his time happily. But as time went by, he felt that he was not as happy as before.

So he put up an advertisement and gathered all the merchants around the world to sell him something that would make him happy. And those merchants that turned up, tried to sell him whatever they had brought along, the best diamond, the best alcohol, practically everything best in the world. But none did make him happy for long.

Until one day, an old man came before him and said that he could sell him that could make him happy for a lifetime. He was amazed by the old man, and told the old man, “No matter how much the cost it would be, he would willing to pay for the item”. The old man then told him “I want all your fortune as the cost for my item”. Initially he was unwilling to give up his fortune, but then after a moment of thought that what he owned now was not able to provide him with what he desired - happiness. Hence he agreed to the deal.

And the old man passed item to him, after opening up the wrapped item, he found that it was a hoe. He was furious, and angrily shouting at the old man. The old man just simply replied “This hoe is what you need to get happiness, and continue for a month, and you will be able to find your happiness”.

So the man, went broke for spending his fortune in exchange for the hoe. All he had ever left with was the hoe. There was nothing that he could do, except to go back to farming. And he continued for a month, and within the month, he got together with his old friends, continue to help others in need. And true enough, a month later, the farmer was happy again.

This story is to let you realize the different perspective in life, being rich does not mean you will be happy, and being poor does not mean you have to be unhappy. It is the perspective that changes you, that changes your thoughts. You are able to make the decision to be happy.

Authentic happiness does not come from materials, but from your internals. Materials can only give a temporary joy of happiness, but it may not last long. In life, we are not able to avoid any resentment or unhappiness towards someone or something, however you will need to take your focus off the resentment or the unhappiness. And focus on making yourself happy.

And this is vice versa, if you are unhappy and grumpy, the people around will tend to be affected by you emotions as well. Hence, try to practice smiling and laughing.

The world always looks brighter from behind a smile. – Source Unknown
